This are the ZLT castings for a feldbahn (field railway) diesel, designed to fit on a Marklin 8800 chassis with the centre wheels removed. Frankly, the castings are not great and take a lot of work to get a decent result. Unfortunately, a lot of UK made N and 2mm scale castings are like this. I don't really understand why, as I've seen some really nice ones of similar size from elsewhere and our larger scale compatriots have decent quality stuff.
However, all is not lost, as a rather nice loco can be made. Below is a photo of the assembled body and the modified 8800 chassis. The alterations to the chassis mean that it cannot again be used for a steam loco, so it's a bit do or die. The work isn't hard and the chassis will still run as well as before. The centre driving wheels are pulled off the axles, leaving the axle in-situ. The chassis block is shortened just by the cylinder mounting. The front mounting clip is lost, but the chassis still keeps the rear sprung mounting peg and sits in the body well enough by friction.
So, one more loco is now added to my somewhat catholic collection.
