Unpainted loco - 19kb

As you can see, the loco is just about 1¾ inches (45mm) long.  The heavy wire coupling bars have now been replaced by a much thinner version using 0.001" thick wire, as in the photo below.

The painted loco looks like it has a horrible orange peel finish which is very evident here, but this is a massive enlargement and it's actually less prominent in the flesh. Painting was done using aerosol spray (Spectra matt black). Although quick and easy, this type of spray isn't really suitable for small models like this. An airbrush is a much better proposition,or even careful brush painting would be better. I used cellulose paint, so the finish is at least robust. The black is also too "black".  A dark grey would be a better alternative, something like Humbrol no. 67. However, being cellulose paint, it's a very robust finish, so it will stand a bit of rubbing down to become a primer for a top coat.
